Kidsmoke - Higher

Merry Boxing Day! Hope you’ve all had a good swill?

I have spent the majority of my Christmas in North Wales and amongst the indulgence I’ve been checking out the local music scene. Wales has been a hub for emerging music and creative expression for many a year, I mean just look at the rise of Aled Jones, not to mention his namesake Sir Tom. The poor bugger didn’t seem to know what day it was on the recent BBC Xfactor spin-off ‘The Voice’. I’m by no means saying this next offering should be classed in the same league as these notable greats. However, ‘Kidsmoke’ are certainly making themselves heard in the North West.

The four piece band from Wrexham released their debut EP ‘Higher’ in September this year and despite being heavily under the influence of cherry whilst giving it a whirl, it’s a superb listen. In fact, in the words of another famous Welshman, Shakin Steven’s;’Its Lovely Stuff!’

Title track ‘Higher’ highlights the bands influences from 80’s groups’The Smiths’ & ‘Joy Divison’, with more recent influences that include Boston five piece ‘Deerhunter’ & New York band ‘The Walkmen‘.

My choice on the EP is track 2 ‘Take Me to the River’.

Got a shiny new tablet from the big fella? hunting for good music to chuck on it? Give ‘Kidsmoke ‘a look and support this talented emerging band.
