I switched BBC Breakfast on this morning to see Carol Kirkwood presenting the weather in that familiar, slightly highly strung nervy style of hers. You’d think she’d be used to presenting on live television seeing as she’s been doing it for the best part of a decade. But no, not our Carol. She bumbles through her 60 second bulletin only to have the Michael taken out of her by Bill Turnbull at the end of each broadcast. Now Sky’s Francis Wilson, he was a man who really knew his shit when it came to … well, weather! Always the ultimate professional and remained cool and calm under pressure even when things were going all to cock around him!
Thanks for the fond memories Francis. Ok, so maybe we’ll leave the ‘Top 10 ten weather presenters of all time’ for a future (probably unpopular) post. Going back to the subject of Carol, she actually brought some cheer today by forecasting a mini-heatwave this coming weekend … well 19 degrees, but that’s about as good as we get up north. In fact, if this comes off as predicted I might even go as far as to get my pasty whites out!
In order to take the attention away from my milk-bottle white legs, I reckon some new summer shorts may be required and Dutch menswear brand Scotch & Soda have a cracking selection of casual shorts available this summer. I first came across Scotch & Soda back in 2004 when I was working at Accent Clothing in Leeds and I was immediately struck by their classic vintage styling. They tend to focus on creating great washes and use a really bold, brash colour palette. This lends itself really well to a summer wardrobe.
So, whether you’re buying shorts for your holidays or just a barbecue in the back garden, Scotch & Soda have some cracking options.
Oh and feel free to share your favourite weather presenter with me? (cue a swathe of comments below).
