My first pair of ‘Sperry Top-Siders’ arrived in the post a few weeks back and I have to say I’m well chuffed with my purchase. The Massachusetts footwear brand are noted for being the original creators of the classic boat shoe. Sperry’s were established in 1935 by avid boater Paul Sperry who came up with the idea of a herringbone grooved sole for his nautical footwear to stop him coming a cropper on the slippery wooden deck.
Nearly 80 years on and Sperry Top-Siders are still at the forefront of boat-shoe design and innovation. Although as you might aspect they’ve diversified a little in that time and now produce an impressive range CVO canvas sneakers, as well as their original leather shoe.
If you’re into Vans then these canvas Top-Siders should be right up your street. My pair of authentic floral CVO’s feature an allover print, canvas upper and blue grooved rubber sole. As you can see from the snaps below there’s not a boat in sight, but I’m confident Sperry’s hierarchy will feel safe in the knowledge that they passed the do a skid on the kitchen floor covered in bin juice test with flying colours.
Here’s the best of the rest from Sperry’s latest canvas collection:
