3Doodler – The first 3D Printing Pen

8th September 2014

Spirograph, Etch-A-Sketch, Pictionary were all two-dimensional arty toys/games that kept me mildly amused during my youth. Fast forward 20 years and the worlds gone 3D mad; 3D film, computer games, TV’s; I mean before you can say ‘Toy Story 3’  someone will have come up with the cuckoo notion that you can now pick up a pen draw stuff in mid-air …

Oh hang on …

Despite having absolutely no use whatsoever for this 3Doodler (apart for well … doodling), I cant begin to tell you how much I want one. This 3D Printing Pen allows you to bring pictures to life by physically drawing in mid air, crazy stuff I know.

So how does it work? Well the 3Doodler squeezes out a thin, flexible, but strong thread of heated plastic that quickly hardens, enabling you to create three-dimensional shapes in real time. Don’t believe me? check this video below

So kids, if Santa brings you crayon’s and a colouring book this Christmas, don’t feel the need to mask your disappointment. Instead, why not write the big man as strongly worded emailing detailing the fact it’s 2014, not 1985 and following lengthy discussions with your fellow peers it’s the general consensous that by continuing to distribute this 2D crap year in year out he’s slowly alienating himself from todays youth element.
