Bristols independent T-Shirt enterprise Turbo Island really can do no wrong in my eyes. Having featured founder Chris Wright’s playful band tees on the blog back in September, and again in October as one half off his Sport Cheeses guise, you could be forgiven for thinking he’s paying us a healthy ransom for all this promo. Not the case, we just think he makes damn good t-shirts and his latest creations were the only choice for what will be our final T-Shirt Tuesday of the Year.
His latest batch of prints Chris pays homage to those skinny Japanese synth-pop instrumentalists, Yellow Magic Orchestra with this four colour keyboard print on a white tee. Next up a celebration of Juan Atkins & Richard Davis’ 1980’s techno group ‘Cybotron’, featuring Juan’s alias ‘Model 500’ logo on the left chest and a screen-printed sprue to the rear. A must for any earlier techno heads.
Finally, there’s an illustrated adaptation (Californian Raisin style) of Nigerian psychedelic funk musician William Onyeabor and his 13 minute (slightly odd) rhythmic synthesiser epic ‘When the Going is Smooth and Good’.
Yet more unique and effortlessly cool tees from this consummate Bristolian.
