It’s 3 in the morning and you’re pissed up in the chippy. You order the works; meat, chips chilli sauce, chips, garlic sauce, meat, chips. Its all on there. You’ve paid and you’re just about to smash it in your face, only for some absolute cretin to push past, causing you to throw your sustenance all over them shiny new sneaks you purchased a mere 10 hours ago. Life really is a fuck sometimes!
Well believe it or not, Reebok and New York sneaker store ‘Extra Butter‘ have joined forces to cook-up a cuisine based colour-way that somewhat resembles your 3am mishap.
Aptly named ‘Street Meat’, this latest collaboration pays homage to 53rd & 6th vendor ‘The Halal Cart’. EB have taken the classic ventilator silhouette and given it a takeaway style (if there is such a thing) makeover, inspired by the foods associated with this New York City institution.
And the menu? Well they’ve prepared a filling walnut and desert khaki upper to act as the grilled meat, splashes of white for the yoghurt, yellow for the mustard and a subtle pink to represent the hot sauce. Tasty!
Although it’s actually the shoes branding that gets my tastebuds going. Expect a green Hexalite logo to the heel, heritage Ventilator detail on the tongue, and a creative Reebok x Extra Butter dual branding on the side panel.
I’m under no illusions they’re going to divide opinion amongst the footwear fraternity, but I don’t think anyone could deny them the tag of 2015’s most inventive trainer to date.
