Is it outerwear? Is it knitwear? Is it a t-shirt? Christ knows, but it’s called a Smock.
So what actually is a smock? Well according to the Wikipedia people a smock may refer to one or all of the following; a coat-like outer garment, often worn to protect the clothes; a shirt worn in Ghana; or a woman’s undergarment.
Now this smock looks like it would struggle to protect your clothes from a green tea spillage let alone a North Sea fret, which leads me to the ill-founded conclusion that such smocks are worn as some kind of 13oz flannel under-crackers. Throw some Ghanaian heat and a drawstring hem into the mix and I’m left picturing a heavily perspiring woman of African descent sporting an expensive woolen nappy cover. Are you sold on this yet?
Anyway, apparently Engineered Garments are trying to pass this off as some kind of contemporary menswear piece, which is clearly ridiculous. I mean it’s got elasticated cuffs for a start, which everyone knows are the work of Michael Barrymore, or Michael Barrowman, or both.
But what do I know, I’m just some schmuck who ain’t up on his smocks.
