To the untrained eye these ruby’s may look like a pair of regular leather kicks. Don’t be fooled though. These Blucher’s courtesy Chicago cobblers ‘Oak Street’ are made from Chromexcel leather (the same leather used by Viberg),which happens to be an immaculate hide that’s undergone more treatments than Mickey Rourke’s disfigured dial and utilises products you might find in your nanna’s kitchen cupboard. Think along the lines of; organic beef fat potion-y stuff, beeswax, marine oil, salt, and tree bark extracts. Mouth-watering!
So, why put a cows skin and Rourke’s dish through such turmoil? Well, according to proper shoe-making experts this process leaves this leather with a soft, supple, yet durable quality that looks better with age, wear, and the odd coat Neatsfoot oil.
The rest of the shoe features a Goodyear Welt construction, oiled leather soles, a stacked heel with dovetail top lift, and a calf-skin lining. Far from regular footwear then! Also, be sure to check out the curved stitch detailing on the heel, it’s dead good …
