Martenero ‘Ace’ Watch from Tanner Goods

13th January 2016

Sitting in your pants and watching sport all day whilst polishing off your fourth chocolate santa in as many days is now a distant memory. Yes, you’re back to work in your hated career of choice and for the foreseeable future your life will yet again be ruled by time, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Well, saying that you could go and buy this Martenero watch courtesy of Portland’s Tanner Goods. I’ll admit it’s not going to change the fact you’ve got three months of work to endure before your next holiday, or the fact your currently living off tap-water sandwiches until pay-day. But hey it looks nice, tells the time, and is custom made for your January blues.

On the subject of custom made, Tanner actually collaborated with the folks at Martenero to create the very own spec of the Ace featuring this Desert Tan dial, date window and custom edition engraving on the exhibition case, with a mere 75 going into production.

It’s basically a reboot of the classic pilot watch and designed with focus on versatility and durability. There’s plenty of features to mention from the large arabic numerals to the screw-down crown designed to keep the watch water resistant to 100 metres, but what stood out for me was the fact it’s made from surgical grade steel, you know like the steel Jaws’ teeth were made from in the Bond films. Proper heavy duty non-corrosive super hard as nails steel, which probably accounts for why they reckon the Ace will last for decades with minimal maintenance.
